WELSH BAND MEMBER CLEARED OF COURT CHILD ABUSE CHARGES FACES PROFESSIONAL HEARING
A former member of the Welsh language band Bwncath, Alun Jones Williams, was cleared of a court allegation of sexual communication with a child. The court at Caernarfon Crown Court in April 2024 found no evidence against him, and he was formally declared not guilty.
Despite this, the Education Workforce Council Wales (EWC) alleges that Williams did send messages and photos to a 15-year-old girl, believing her to be 18, which constitutes unacceptable professional conduct for a registered teacher.
The EWC panel heard that Williams exchanged social media messages with the girl, including an inappropriate photo of an erect penis with the words 'Nearly ready for you', and other sexually explicit messages such as 'f**k I can't get enough', 'I want to suck the t**s off you', and 'I want to fill you'.
Williams, who had no prior allegations or accusations during his employment, did not dispute sending messages and claimed he believed the girl was 18 based on her own statements, though he did not verify her age.
The hearing follows an incident where Williams circulated social media photos with sexually explicit content related to him and a girl, leading to his suspension from employment and subsequent resignation in November 2023.
The case remains ongoing with the EWC regarding his professional conduct.
