A man from Penyffordd has been found guilty of raping a woman and has been sentenced to prison.
Allistair McHugh, aged 35, was convicted of assaulting a victim at his residence in January 2017.
The court was told that McHugh, who was 27 at the time, ridiculed his victim by laughing after the attack.
He appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court for sentencing and received a sentence of six years behind bars.
The victim reported enduring physical injuries and psychological trauma, such as flashbacks and mental health challenges.
She also stated that her trust in people, especially men, has been affected, and she feels she is no longer the same person she was prior to the assault.
The judge commended her courage in coming forward after several years of silence and criticized McHugh’s behaviour.
After the sentence was handed down, police representatives praised her resilience and reaffirmed their dedication to securing justice for victims of sexual assault.
