WOMAN JAILED AFTER STABBING HER SON'S DOG WITH SAMURAI SWORD
A woman, Alicia Darcy, called police while intoxicated on October 12 last year, claiming her son's dog had attacked her and that she had killed it.
Officers responded to the scene to find the dog on a sofa in a sleeping position with a samurai sword embedded in its torso.
During her police interview, the 54-year-old admitted to stabbing the dog while it was resting on the couch.
Darcy, from Platt Avenue in Sandbach, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, as well as possession of an offensive weapon in a private place at an earlier hearing.
She was sentenced to 18 months in prison and was disqualified from having anything to do with animals.
The samurai sword used in the attack was seized and ordered to be destroyed.
PC Charlotte Owen described the case as very distressing, stating "The level of cruelty was abhorrent.
She left the dog to die with the sword embedded in it.
It is incomprehensible how someone could not only inflict such violence on an animal but then be so callous as to leave it to suffer."
