WOMAN ORDERED TO STAY AWAY FROM EX AFTER THREATENING AND HARASSING BEHAVIOUR
A woman named Alicia Beaton has been legally ordered to stay away from her former partner after engaging in persistent and threatening behaviour over a span of more than a month. She was involved in sending hundreds of messages via email, text, Snapchat, Facebook calls, and TikToks, all in an attempt to rekindle their relationship which had ended.
The couple had an on-off relationship from November 2022 to May 2023, with a brief reconciliation in late May to early June.
During their interactions, Beaton’s behaviour escalated, culminating in her approaching her ex and her vehicle shouting and kicking it after a disagreement.
She then bombarded her with around 100 Snapchat messages daily, refusing to accept the relationship was over, and posted threatening messages on her Snapchat story.
On August 20, 2023, Beaton appeared outside her ex’s home for two hours, frightening her and sending additional threats through calls and messages.
Further incidents included a series of abusive Snapchat messages following a social media post, threatening voicemails, and her turning up at her ex’s address which resulted in her being arrested.
She pleaded guilty to engaging in a course of behaviour that was abusive over the specified period and at various addresses in Aberdeen.
The court, presided over by Sheriff Lesley Johnston, ordered Beaton to complete 160 hours of unpaid work instead of custodial sentence and issued a three-year non-harassment order.
The court acknowledged her remorse and her acknowledgment that her behaviour crossed the line, though it also noted the fluctuating nature of her relationship with the victim.
