ALEXANDER MITCHELL FROM DORNOCH SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL OFFENSES IN INVERGORDON AND WICK

A man identified as Alexander Mitchell, hailing from Dornoch, has been sentenced to six years in prison following a heinous sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl. The incident took place in the vicinity of Invergordon, Easter Ross, and has shocked the local communities of Dornoch and Wick, Caithness.

Mitchell, aged 23 at the time of sentencing, was already on bail after being accused of engaging in sexual activities with two other minors, both 13 years old. Despite these prior allegations and the conditions of his bail, Mitchell proceeded to commit the recent offense, which involved exploiting a young girl in the most disturbing manner.

During the proceedings at the High Court in Glasgow, Lord Boyd, the presiding judge, acknowledged Mitchell’s guilty plea and stated that he would have imposed a nine-year sentence had Mitchell not admitted guilt. The court heard that Mitchell had contacted the girl through social media platforms, establishing communication that eventually led to him encouraging her to climb into his house through a window. This act was carried out despite Mitchell being under strict bail conditions that prohibited him from being in the company of girls under the age of 16.

Police Scotland described the assault as a case of severe exploitation, with authorities emphasizing the horrific nature of the crime. The judge highlighted Mitchell’s predatory behavior, noting that he had asked the young girl to enter his home in Dornoch and then took advantage of her, raping her in the process. Lord Boyd pointed out that Mitchell’s interest in underage girls was evident, given his previous allegations involving two 13-year-olds.

Following the incident, police responded to reports that a young girl had climbed through a window at Mitchell’s residence. When officers arrived, Mitchell appeared nervous and fidgety, with police noting that he was pale and sweaty. Despite his nervous demeanor, Mitchell claimed that no one else was present in the house. Police observed the girl lying in a bedroom, initially told that they had only been talking and smoking cigarettes. However, in March of the previous year, the girl disclosed the full details of the assault, revealing that she had not previously told the truth out of fear of getting into trouble.

Mitchell later admitted to raping the girl in June 2014 at a house near Invergordon, in Easter Ross. It was revealed that he was a laborer with a history of sexual offenses, adding to concerns about his pattern of predatory behavior.

In court, Mitchell’s defense lawyer, Lorraine Glancy, presented a letter expressing remorse from her client, emphasizing that he had not had any contact with the victim since the incident. She described Mitchell as a young man who, at the time of the assault, was 20 years old and had been struggling with substance misuse following the death of a friend.

Judge Lord Boyd sentenced Mitchell to six years in prison, with an additional two years of community supervision upon release. The court also ordered Mitchell to be placed on the sex offenders' register and to be subject to monitoring in the community for two years after his release. Police Scotland’s public protection unit, represented by Detective Sergeant Lynne Baptie, commended the victim’s bravery in coming forward, which led to Mitchell’s conviction and prevented him from potentially harming other young people in the future.

It was also noted that Mitchell is currently residing on Louisburgh Street in Wick, Caithness, raising concerns about his ongoing presence in the community and the importance of continued vigilance to protect vulnerable individuals.
