ABERDEEN MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER THROTTLING PARTNER AND STAMPING ON HER HEAD
A man was convicted of assaulting his partner in Aberdeen on Boxing Day, narrowly avoiding jail.
Aleksander Ostrowski, aged 46, was found guilty of attacking his partner shortly after 5pm at a residence by throttling her and stamping on her head.
Court proceedings revealed that Ostrowski put his hand around her throat, squeezing tightly enough to restrict her breathing without causing her to lose consciousness.
The victim's mother, who overheard the incident on a phone call, saw her daughter distressed afterward.
Injuries reported included cuts, scratches, a bruised nose, and a cut to her back.
During the court hearing, social workers' reports did not recommend him for the Caledonian Programme due to language barriers, which his defense argued hindered his engagement.
Ostrowski pleaded guilty to assault to the danger of life by seizing his partner's neck and compressing it, as well as stamping on her head and body while wearing shoes.
Charges of threatening to kill were dropped as part of a plea deal.
The sheriff acknowledged that the injuries were minor but emphasized the danger of such behavior.
The court sentenced him to 300 hours of unpaid work, supervised for two years, and a Restriction of Liberty Order for 11 months, along with a five-year non-harassment order.
