In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of South Cerney, Gloucestershire, a former military sergeant has seen his prison sentence reduced after being convicted of heinous sexual offenses committed decades ago. Alan McCurry, aged 67, who previously served in the 4th Battalion Mercian Regiment based in Farnborough, was found guilty of multiple serious crimes involving young girls during the 1970s and 1980s.McCurry's criminal history includes the abuse of at least two young victims, with one girl enduring a rape and the other subjected to sexual assaults. His crimes came to light after one of the victims, demonstrating remarkable courage, reported the abuse to the police in 2010. This report led to a lengthy investigation and eventual prosecution.
Following his arrest, McCurry was brought before the military courts and, in July 2015, was sentenced to a term of 15 years in prison at the Colchester Military Courts Centre. The court found him guilty on multiple counts, including two charges of rape, four counts of indecent assault, and one count of indecency with a child.
