EDDLESTON MAN ADMITS TO STALKING FORMER PARTNER WITH THREATENING MESSAGES
A man from Eddleston named Alan Cairney has admitted to stalking his former partner by repeatedly sending offensive text messages and exhibiting aggressive behavior towards her.
The incident occurred during a six-week period when they had an dispute at the Black Barony Hotel.
The court was informed that between February 13 and March 30, Cairney sent a total of 753 messages to the woman, many of which were from her urging him to stop contacting her.
The messages included threats and aggressive content, although his lawyer stated that the majority of the messages were supportive and an attempt to rekindle their relationship.
The defense acknowledged some messages crossed the line and were unacceptable.
Cairney pleaded guilty to the offence, and the sheriff deferred sentence to allow for background reports, which will determine his suitability for a men's rehabilitation program.
Cairney, aged 31, will be sentenced on February 27.
