WORDSLEY SURGEON DISQUALIFIED AFTER SEX MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS
A Wordsley surgeon accused of sex acts has spoken of his disappointment after being struck off the medical register.After a month of hearings by the General Medical Council (GMC), Aivar Bracka was found to be guilty of sexually motivated behaviour which was improper and a gross abuse of his patients’ trust.The GMC concluded Bracka, who specialized in correcting male genital deformities, performed sex acts on himself and six of his patients at Wordsley Hospital.Aivar Bracka said: “I am disappointed and surprised by the decision of the Fitness to Practise panel having been acquitted of these allegations in the Crown Court, and having been retired from clinical practice for some time now.”The eminent surgeon was acquitted of all criminal charges in connection with the allegations last year.A damning report from the GMC said: “The events in this case involved six patients and took place over a long period of time.“Dr Bracka has shown little insight into the gravity of his actions and the panel does not believe that the misconduct has been remedied.”The incidents which condemned Bracka, of Balmoral Road, Wordsley, were said to have been carried out between 1987 and 2000, during which time he appeared on a TV show called Trust Me - I’m A Doctor.Hospital bosses say patient safety is its highest priority and policies are in place to safeguard people during intimate examinations.Paul Assinder, Deputy Chief Executive for The Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The Trust would like to reassure patients that appropriate action was taken as soon as the allegations against Mr Bracka were brought to our attention.“Mr Bracka left the Trust in May 2010.
The Trust cannot give personal details of a person’s employment.”
