MAN VICIOUSLY STRANGLED HIS GIRLFRIEND UNTIL HIS ATTACK WAS INTERRUPTED BY A DELIVERY DRIVER
A raging boyfriend strangled his girlfriend until a delivery driver interrupted his vicious and unprovoked assault.Aiden Morgan's partner pleaded with him to "have a joint and calm down", after he throttled her to the point of almost passing out.
Instead of stopping, Morgan, 23, resumed his assault in front of her two-year-old son, threatening her with words like "I want to see the life drain out of your body." Following this, he jumped out of a bedroom window in an unsuccessful attempt to escape arrest.
Liverpool Crown Court was told that Morgan had known his victim, who has chosen not to be named by the press, for approximately two years.
The pair met while living in a hostel, where it was reported that Morgan sold her weed.
Their relationship began in January 2024, but tensions arose partly because of Morgan’s ongoing contact with an ex-girlfriend.
Prosecutor Christopher Taylor explained that Morgan, residing in Norris Green, was expelled from his partner’s accommodation in the following month because she was living with him against the rules.
They then lived in a tent in Chester.
During this period, Morgan subjected her to emotional abuse, calling her names like "bad mother," "slut," "bad girlfriend," and "prostitute." After she secured her own tenancy in June, Morgan was subjected to bail conditions that banned him from contacting her following an assault allegation.
Despite a decision not to prosecute over that incident, he later re-entered her life.
On October 4 of the previous year, an argument broke out between the couple after Morgan dropped a tin of weed in her bedroom and couldn’t roll a joint.
When she asked if he was okay, he responded angrily, insulting her and expressing his desire to be with his ex, hinting at threats from her family.
This led to Morgan grabbing her by the throat with both hands, lifting her, and pinning her against the front door, causing her to nearly pass out.
He continued to choke her against the living room window, in front of her young child, for up to 30 seconds, saying he did not care if others saw him.
The assault was interrupted when a delivery man arrived.
Police later found him trying to escape through a bedroom window and being aggressive towards officers.
The victim said she had lost four stone during their relationship due to comments from Morgan about her weight, and he had cruelly compared her to a "junkie." In court, her statement revealed the trauma she endured, describing feelings of suffocation, nightmares, panic attacks, and her decision to leave her home and business for safety.
She expressed concern about her child’s well-being, noting her son’s distress after witnessing the assault.
Morgan, without previous convictions, showed remorse during his defence, with his lawyer highlighting his troubled childhood, difficult relationships, and efforts to rehabilitate.
He admitted to one count of intentional strangulation and was sentenced to two years in prison along with a five-year restraining order.
Judge Andrew Menary KC condemned his actions as posing a serious risk, emphasising the importance of severe punishment to deter similar offenses and protect future victims.
