AIDEN MOLLOY POMEROY FILM-MAKER JAILED FOR SIX-YEAR CHILD SEX ABUSE CAMPAIGN

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Pomeroy, Aiden Patrick Molloy, a local film-maker, was recently sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of a prolonged and heinous campaign of sexual abuse against a young girl. The abuse spanned over six years, beginning when the girl was just 13 years old and continuing until she reached 19, with Molloy exploiting his position and trust during this period.

Details of the case reveal that Molloy, who resides on Loughbracken Road in Pomeroy, engaged in multiple acts of molestation against the girl between 1998 and 2004. The victim’s ordeal was uncovered after a complaint was made to the police, leading to Molloy’s arrest and subsequent charges more than 18 months ago. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Molloy maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to the charges, and was released on bail pending trial.

What has caused particular concern and outrage in the community is the fact that Molloy, a man who described himself as a professional film-maker on various business websites, continued to work with children even after being charged with serious sex offences. He owns a production company called Molloy Films, which primarily focused on filming weddings, Christenings, school events, sporting matches, and community activities before his conviction. It is understood that those who commissioned his work were unaware of the allegations against him, raising questions about the safety protocols and oversight in place.

Shockingly, even after being charged, Molloy was involved in filming activities involving children. Earlier this year, just months before his scheduled trial, he filmed several schoolgirls for a charity event. In December, he also recorded a Christmas Santa run that featured numerous children, further highlighting the troubling disregard for the allegations against him.

A source close to the case expressed strong condemnation of Molloy’s actions, stating, “It is indefensible that this man was working with children and young girls while awaiting trial on extremely serious sex abuse charges. To make it worse, no parents were notified that the man working with their children was accused of child sex offences. This man is extremely manipulative. He is not a nice man, but for many years was able to fool so many people.”

In May, a jury found Molloy guilty of three counts of indecent assault against the girl he molested. Following the verdict, a judge sentenced him last week to two years in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender. The court, however, decided against imposing a ban that would prevent him from working with children upon his release. The judge explained that, considering all circumstances, it was unlikely Molloy would commit further offences against children, and therefore, disqualifying him from working with minors was deemed unnecessary under the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults Order.

Nevertheless, a Sexual Offences Prevention Order was issued, restricting Molloy from having contact with children under the age of 16 for a period of five years, except in unavoidable circumstances that occur in everyday life. This measure aims to mitigate any potential risk while allowing him to reintegrate into society after serving his sentence.
