MAN THREATENS TO KILL EX AND IS SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ASSAULT AND THREATS
A man issued a deadly warning to police, claiming that if he was released from custody, he would go out and kill his former partner, after being arrested for assaulting her, a court has been told.Adrian Worsely threatened the police that his release would result in her death.
During proceedings at Swansea Crown Court, it was revealed that Worsely, aged 50, had been significantly affected by the breakup of his relationship.
At the time of the incident, he was living in a van.
A statement from the victim described Worsely as being "kind" when sober but becoming fearful and unsafe when he drank alcohol.
Prosecutor Ieuan Rees explained that Worsely and the complainant had been together for approximately 14 years until early 2023, when their relationship ended amid issues linked to his alcohol abuse and aggressive conduct.
Court records indicated that by August, Worsely was residing in a van but frequently visited the family home unannounced to wash himself and his clothes.
On August 24, the ex-partner returned home after a day out to find Worsely intoxicated in her yard.
He was allowed inside initially but was asked to leave later that evening.
Worsely returned later that night, shouting and swearing at her, then struck her in the face.
Although police were called, he had already departed.
He made repeat visits before his arrest on August 30.
During custody, Worsely became verbally abusive and threatened to kill his former partner, stating he wanted to go directly to prison and if released, he would "cut her head off." The victim expressed her fears that without police protection, Worsely would continue to harass her, leading her to request a restraining order.
The court also considered Worsely’s previous convictions, which include eight convictions for 16 offenses such as battery, assault, criminal damage, and three separate assaults causing actual bodily harm.
His defense acknowledged he suffers from serious alcohol and mental health problems but noted he is engaged in rehabilitation efforts.
The judge sentenced Worsely to eight months' imprisonment, with a one-third reduction for entering a plea agreement, alongside an additional 12 weeks for battery, to be served concurrently.
It is anticipated he will serve roughly half of that sentence before release on licence.
Furthermore, a five-year restraining order was issued to prohibit contact with his ex-partner.
Worsely, who has no fixed address, was convicted of assault and making threats to kill, having pleaded guilty during sentencing.
The court highlighted the threats’ severity, which stemmed from frustration, but also cited his mental health and substance misuse as contributing factors.
