Llanharan Sexual Abuser
In a case that has shocked the local community, Adrian Orum, a man from Llanharan in Rhondda Cynon Taff, has been sentenced to prison for serious sexual offenses committed against an eight-year-old girl. The crimes took place in 2001, when Orum was just 18 years old, and involved him assaulting the young girl and coercing her into performing sexual acts on him.

Orum, who was employed as a driver for the St John Ambulance service in Wales at the time, faced multiple charges including gross indecency with a child and three counts of indecent assault. Despite denying these allegations throughout the trial, a jury found him guilty of all charges after deliberation. The verdict was delivered at Cardiff Crown Court, where he was subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison on the same day.

Following the allegations, Orum was immediately suspended from his role as a driver with St John Cymru-Wales, a well-known first aid charity. A spokesperson for the organization clarified that Orum was not a staff member at the time of the abuse, emphasizing their commitment to safety and integrity. The statement read: “It is important to point out that Adrian Orum was not a member of staff when this abuse took place. We take the safety of our patients, staff and volunteers extremely seriously. Throughout this process we have worked with the relevant authorities and followed our internal policies, to ensure no-one has been put at risk.”

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Tom Crowther QC addressed the court, highlighting the profound impact of Orum’s actions. He stated, “The consequences have plainly been devastating. The respectable life for which you are proud was built on the unsuitable foundation of what you did as a young man. You were young but you were an adult.” The judge’s remarks underscored the gravity of the offenses and the lasting damage inflicted upon the victim, as well as the importance of justice being served in such cases.
