ADRIAN GOLIGHER FROM TULLYALLY JAILED IN LONDONDERRY FOR INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN

In a case that has shocked the community of Londonderry, Adrian Mark Goligher, a 41-year-old resident of Stevenson Park in the Tullyally area, has been sentenced to a year in prison after admitting to downloading indecent images of children from the internet. The offences, which took place in 2007, involved a total of eight separate incidents of illegal material acquisition.

During the sentencing at Londonderry Crown Court, Judge Piers Grant emphasized the disturbing nature of the images involved. He described them as depicting "vulnerable and defenceless young boys," underscoring the gravity of the crimes and the need for a sentence that reflects the public's strong condemnation of such acts. The judge also ordered Goligher to be registered on the sex offenders register for a period of five years, a measure aimed at monitoring and preventing further offences.

The court proceedings revealed that Goligher was arrested following a police operation conducted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). The operation was initiated after authorities in Birmingham uncovered evidence linking Goligher to the illegal downloads. His home was subsequently searched, leading to his arrest. It was also disclosed that one of the film clips he admitted to downloading was classified as being of the second most serious category in terms of indecency, highlighting the severity of the material involved.

Following his arrest and subsequent charge, Goligher faced an attack from three masked assailants, forcing him to flee his residence in a state of distress. The court also imposed additional restrictions on Goligher’s future conduct, including a three-year probation period upon his release from prison. Furthermore, he was banned from accessing computers and from having unsupervised contact with children, measures designed to prevent any potential reoffending and to protect vulnerable minors from harm.
