ADAM STEVENSON'S SHAMEFUL CRIMES IN OLDBURY AND HALESOWEN PARKS

A man with a disturbing history of sexual misconduct has been sentenced to prison after a shocking incident at Leasowes Park in Halesowen. Adam Stevenson, aged 44 and a resident of Oldbury, was caught in a highly inappropriate act that has once again brought to light his pattern of offending behavior.

According to reports, Stevenson was sitting in his vehicle when he performed a sexual act in front of a woman who had parked nearby. The woman observed his car stall, prompting Stevenson to pull up next to her. In an attempt to attract her attention, he wolf-whistled at her. Moments later, she saw his car door open, and she was horrified to witness Stevenson with his trousers around his ankles, actively engaged in a sexual act. The woman was understandably shocked and distressed by the incident, which she described as 'revolting.'

Initially, Stevenson claimed to the woman that he was naked because he 'needed the toilet.' However, he later admitted that his actions were driven by his struggles with social interaction and confidence issues, particularly his difficulty talking to women. This explanation was part of his attempt to justify his behavior, which is not uncommon in his history of offences.

When questioned by police, Stevenson initially denied any wrongdoing, stating he was waiting for a friend. However, he eventually confessed to exposing himself in public. His criminal record reveals a long-standing pattern of similar offences, with seven convictions for eight separate incidents. Notably, this was not his first time being jailed for exposure; he was last imprisoned in 2024 for an eight-month sentence related to similar conduct.

Stevenson’s case was brought before Wolverhampton Crown Court, where Judge Jonathan Gosling presided. The judge sentenced him to a further eight months in prison, emphasizing that Stevenson is a 'repeat offender' whose chances of rehabilitation are slim. The judge pointed out that Stevenson deliberately sought to attract attention in a public space, even though no children were present during this particular incident. Nevertheless, the presence of children in parks makes such behaviour especially concerning.

In addition to his prison sentence, Stevenson was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register for seven years and to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for the same period. His legal representative, Millie Hainge, argued that Stevenson is 'sorry for his actions' and 'remorseful.' She highlighted that he was diagnosed with autism five years ago, which affects his emotional expression and communication skills. Hainge explained that Stevenson struggles with human interaction and has never had an intimate relationship, factors she believes contribute to his offending behavior. She also noted that Stevenson has previously used drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms but is now sober. Interestingly, he has been observed crying in prison, which is unusual for him.

The court acknowledged that Stevenson’s recent reoffending shortly after his last release indicates little hope for rehabilitation. The judge made it clear that his conduct is harmful, especially given the presence of children in the park, and expressed disappointment that despite efforts at reform, he continues to offend. The court underscored that Stevenson’s actions are unacceptable and that society must be protected from such behaviour. Stevenson, residing on Lewis Road in Oldbury, was sentenced on Tuesday, June 17, and will serve time in prison while remaining on the sex offenders register for seven years, under the terms of a sexual harm prevention order.
