CIRENCESTER MAN JAILED AFTER REPEATEDLY ASSAULTING WOMAN
A resident of Cirencester has been sentenced to prison after a pattern of repeated assaults on a woman.Adam Saunders, also known by the alias Savory, received a 15-month jail term at Gloucester Crown Court on February 10.
He pleaded guilty to three separate assault charges committed between June and September of the previous year, as well as to vandalizing her residence.
Prosecutor Neil Treharne detailed incidents where Saunders struck the woman’s face, pulled her hair, and squeezed her throat to muffle her voice.
During the court hearing, a victim impact statement was read, in which the woman expressed her suffering, stating: "There have been many moments when I felt I might end my life," and "I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, not even my worst enemy.
I don’t know if I will ever fully recover." She also described Saunders kicking her on the hip, leaving a bruise, and an attempt to break into her bathroom armed with a knife.
Saunders has a lengthy criminal record, with 37 previous convictions covering 135 offences since 2007.
His attorney highlighted that Saunders still hopes to rebuild their relationship, citing struggles in his background, including a difficult childhood, substance abuse issues, and an ADHD diagnosis.
The presiding judge, Recorder Richard Mawhinney, handed down a 15-month sentence, considering Saunders’ remorse and early life challenges.
