SOUTHPORT WOMAN RECOVERS AFTER HORRIFIC ASSAULT BY EX-BOYFRIEND
A woman from Southport has shared her distress after her former boyfriend, Adam Penny, 21, attacked her in her university flat, leaving her with nightmares and scars.
The incident occurred between December 12 and 13, 2021, when Penny strangled the woman, bit her arm in retaliation after she tried to get him off her, and covered her mouth to silence her screams.
During the assault, she was frantically trying to escape, shouting, kicking walls, and calling for help.
Her flatmate heard her and called security as Penny attempted to hide behind a door and falsely claimed she was on medication.
Security and police eventually apprehended Penny, who initially denied the assault but later pleaded guilty.
He admitted to causing actual bodily harm and was sentenced to a 15-month suspended prison sentence, 240 hours of unpaid work, probation, rehabilitation, and a five-year restraining order.
The woman, who was early in her studies at Hull University and had just moved there, expressed her hope that sharing her experience would help other women in similar situations to seek help.
The case was delayed multiple times until Penny changed his plea in July, and he was finally sentenced on August 19.
Penny resided on Richards Road in Standish at the time of sentencing.
