Adam Mace, 29, of Valley Drive, Gravesend, pleaded guilty to a charge of stalking his former partner in Dartford during May of last year.
Woolwich Crown Court heard that Mace had repeatedly contacted the woman with unwanted texts, voicemails and phone calls.
He also turned up at locations where he knew she would be, causing further distress.
During the hearing on Thursday (9 May), Judge Ruth Downing condemned the content of Mace’s messages, describing the language he used as “deeply offensive.” The messages included derogatory comments directed not only at the woman but also at her parents, grandparents, and new partner.
Judge Downing remarked, “It never fails to amaze and depress me quite how vile people can be to people they once loved.” Mace claimed he had no recollection of sending the messages or making the calls due to being heavily intoxicated at the time.
However, having since reviewed the messages, he expressed remorse, stating he felt “disgusted with himself.” Judge Downing imposed a two-year suspended sentence, noting that she believed Mace was genuinely willing to change his behaviour.
She concluded with a warning: “Good luck in sorting yourself out, and please reflect carefully as a suspended sentence will hang over your head ready to come down if you offend again.”
