Royal Wootton Bassett Rapist
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Royal Wootton Bassett, a man named Adam Leyfield has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after being convicted of heinous crimes involving a young girl under his care. The incident took place earlier this year when Leyfield, who is a father himself, was entrusted with babysitting a four-year-old girl from his neighborhood.

According to court records, Leyfield engaged in sexual assault on the child on two separate occasions. The first involved him coercing the young girl into performing a sex act on him, an act legally classified as rape. Following the assault, Leyfield allegedly instructed the girl not to disclose what had happened, attempting to conceal his actions. Despite his warnings, the girl confided in her mother, who promptly contacted law enforcement authorities.

Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, leading to Leyfield’s arrest at his residence on Glenville Close in Royal Wootton Bassett. Throughout the investigation and subsequent trial at Swindon Crown Court, Leyfield maintained his innocence, denying any involvement in the crimes. However, the evidence presented in court was sufficient to convict him on two counts of raping a child under the age of 13.

During the trial, Leyfield’s defense attorney, Jane Brady, argued that her client still denied the allegations. She emphasized that Leyfield was willing to participate in sex offender rehabilitation programs while in custody. Brady described the offenses as 'opportunistic,' asserting that there was no evidence of grooming or premeditation, and pointed out that Leyfield had not accessed any indecent images of children.

Despite these claims, Judge Euan Ambrose delivered a stern sentence, stating, “Whatever happened the first time, the second offence could not have been opportunistic.” The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes and the need for ongoing supervision and registration. Leyfield was ordered to comply with a sexual offences prevention order that restricts his contact with young girls and was mandated to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

This case has left a lasting impact on the community of Royal Wootton Bassett, highlighting the importance of vigilance and safeguarding vulnerable children from potential harm by individuals in positions of trust.
