2017: ADAM GODWIN FROM MARDEN SENTENCED IN IPSWICH FOR CHILD INDECENCY OFFENSES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community of Marden and the surrounding areas, Adam Godwin, a 38-year-old resident of Marden, Herefordshire, was convicted and sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court for heinous crimes involving the exploitation of minors.The charges stemmed from the discovery of a photograph taken by Godwin of a 15-year-old child who was showering, a deeply invasive act that has garnered significant attention from law enforcement and the public alike.
During the investigation, authorities conducted a thorough search of Godwin’s residence, uncovering a disturbing collection of over 1,000 images and videos depicting children in various states of undress and engaging in sexual activities.
The evidence was found across multiple electronic devices, each revealing a different facet of the offender’s disturbing behavior.
Specifically, on October 29, law enforcement officials found approximately 500 images on a single device.
Among these, 25 were classified as Category A, indicating the most severe and obscene material, including the worst level of indecent images.
An additional 391 images fell into Category B, and 180 into Category C, showing a range of increasingly less severe content.
Furthermore, two videos were recovered from another device, along with 638 images on yet another device, which also contained 13 Category A images.
On a final device, authorities discovered 12 films, five of which were classified at the highest level of obscenity.
The court proceedings revealed that these images and videos represented a disturbing pattern of child exploitation.
The evidence indicated that Godwin had actively downloaded and stored these illicit materials, further compounding his criminal behavior.
The sentences handed down reflected the gravity of his offenses.
He was sentenced to 16 months in prison for the act of taking the indecent photograph of the minor, and an additional four sentences of eight months each for four counts of making indecent images, which relate to the downloaded content found on his devices.
Importantly, the court ordered that the sentences for downloading the images would run concurrently with each other and with the sentence for taking the photograph.
This means that Godwin’s total time in custody would be eight months, effectively serving half of the maximum sentence.
The case has raised serious concerns about child safety and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in tackling such heinous crimes, especially in small communities like Marden where residents expect safety and security for their children.
