TEACHER BANNED FROM PROFESSION INDEFINITELY
The TRA panel reviewed allegations outlined in a notice issued on August 4, 2025.It was accused that Mr.
Binns engaged in unacceptable professional behaviour or conduct that could tarnish the profession’s reputation while employed as a teacher at Bourne Grammar School.
The allegations included several inappropriate actions around December 15-16, 2017, where he was said to have touched Pupil A’s private areas under their clothing, potentially including their vulva or vagina.
Additionally, he was accused of sharing a taxi with pupils A, B, and C; asking Pupil B if he could visit her home; making comments to pupils A and B to the effect of not revealing what happened, claiming he loved his job and did not want to lose it; and telling Pupil A, “do you want to get naughty with me?” around this time.
Another allegation detailed a December 22, 2017, comment to Pupil A, allegedly saying he had placed his hands down their pants or fingered them in a taxi, expressed attraction with a remark about finding Pupil A attractive, and suggested that Pupil A would have liked it if they had a partner, implying inappropriate intentions.
It was also alleged that his conduct was sexually motivated and that he failed to report his contact with pupils A and B to the school between December 15, 2017, and January 2018, despite knowing he was required to do so.
Mr.
Binns admitted to some allegations, specifically contact with Pupil A on December 15-16, 2017, and contact with pupils A and B that was not reported to the school, but denied that these actions amounted to conduct that could bring the profession into disrepute.
All other allegations were denied.
Binns was banned from teaching indefinitely.
