A 48-year-old man has received a prison sentence of 2 years and 9 months at Perth Sheriff Court after being convicted of sexual offences involving a young child, which occurred between January 2014 and September 2019 in Perth.

Adalbert Bredau was also convicted of public indecency. The sentence was handed down on Wednesday, 25 March, 2020.

Detective Constable Graeme Layland, the Investigating Officer, stated: "First and foremost our thoughts remain with the victim and their family as they continue to attempt to cope with the abuse they suffered through Bredau's sexual exploitation of children."

He continued, "I would like to thank the wider communities in Perth and Kinross who have assisted police as we carried out our investigation. I hope that the community can take some comfort in knowing that this individual is now in prison and upon his future release will be subject to additional stringent and robust management within the community."

"I would also like to acknowledge the hard work undertaken by our partners at Perth and Kinross Social Work Department, who work tirelessly to protect children every day."

In court, Bredau made an appearance facing serious allegations related to sexual misconduct near a primary school in Perth. The 48-year-old suspect is charged with engaging in explicit solo acts in a Vauxhall Zafira on two separate occasions in 2018, specifically on September 13 and October 4, close to Balhousie Primary School. He is also accused of inducing a child to participate in sexual activity.

It is reported that between 2013 and 2019, Bredau allegedly engaged in sexual acts while exposing his genitals to a six-year-old girl. The charges include exposing himself and encouraging the child to engage in sexual contact, with reports indicating he deliberately exposed himself to her multiple times, asking her to touch him.

During his court hearing at Perth Sheriff Court, Bredau did not enter a plea. His case was adjourned for further investigation, and he remains in custody ahead of future proceedings.
