Hobbs Child Sexual Abuser
In July 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Aaron Turner, a man from Hobbs who was caught engaging in predatory behavior on social media platforms. Turner had been actively seeking out underage girls on Facebook, where he made contact with four different profiles, all of which were fake accounts created by vigilant paedophile hunters aiming to expose such predators.
Turner-Hobbs, aged 22 and residing on Pinhoe Road in Exeter, initiated conversations with these profiles, which he believed belonged to girls aged 13 or 14. However, these profiles were part of an undercover operation, and the individuals behind them were part of a paedophile hunting group. Despite being informed of their true ages, Turner persisted in his attempts to engage with them.
He repeatedly asked the girls to send explicit selfies, and in one particularly disturbing instance, he sent a video of himself masturbating, accompanied by the comment, “that’s where babies come from.” His continued communication demonstrated a blatant disregard for their stated ages and boundaries. Some of the fake profiles even told him they could not reply because they were at school, yet Turner continued to pursue contact.
Legal proceedings revealed that Turner-Hobbs had made contact with these profiles during the first three months of 2018. Two of the profiles were created by a group known as Shadow Hunters UK, while the other two were set up by another online paedophile hunter organization. His messages were sexually explicit, and he asked for images, which he also sent, including one video of his genitalia.
His actions culminated in an attempt to meet a 21-year-old woman through Facebook. However, the paedophile hunters, who had been monitoring his activity, confronted him before any meeting could take place and subsequently called the police.
Turner-Hobbs faced multiple charges, including attempting to incite a child to sexual activity, attempting to make a child watch a sexual act, and three counts of attempted sexual communication with a child. At Exeter Crown Court, Judge Timothy Rose sentenced him to a three-year community order, which includes participation in a sex offenders treatment program. Additionally, Turner was placed on the sex offenders register for five years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration. This order prohibits him from contacting children and grants authorities the authority to monitor his internet activity closely.
The judge expressed strong condemnation of Turner’s actions, stating, “You did not know these were not real girls. You were busy masturbating yourself in front of what you thought were schoolgirls who were well below the age of consent. It is made worse by the fact that you spread yourself far and wide. It was not just one person but four separate individuals. You dedicated yourself to looking out for anyone even though they told you they were 13 or 14.”
Prosecutor Mr. Joss Ticehurst detailed how Turner-Hobbs had made contact with these fake profiles during early 2018, sending a barrage of sexual messages, requesting images, and sharing explicit videos of himself. His predatory behavior was ultimately halted when he arranged to meet a woman he believed to be 21, only to be confronted by the paedophile hunters, who then involved law enforcement authorities.
