Macclesfield Rapist
In April 2018, a disturbing case involving a young man from Macclesfield captured public attention due to the severity of his crimes and the subsequent legal proceedings. Aaron Tomlinson, aged 18 and residing on Paradise Street in Macclesfield, was found guilty of multiple serious sexual offenses committed over a span of one year. These offenses included the rape of two schoolgirls and the sexual assault of a third young girl, acts that have left a lasting impact on the victims and the community alike.

Tomlinson was tried at Chester Crown Court, but notably, he was convicted in his absence after he refused to appear for the trial and remained in his cell during the proceedings. Despite his absence, the court proceeded with the case and found him guilty of all charges. The court's decision was based on substantial evidence and testimonies that painted a disturbing picture of predatory behavior directed towards vulnerable young girls.

Following the conviction, Mary Dowrick, a senior crown prosecutor with the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences unit of the Mersey-Cheshire Crown Prosecution Service, issued a statement highlighting the nature of Tomlinson’s conduct. She described his actions as part of a “continuing pattern” of predatory sexual behavior aimed at young girls, emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses and the danger he posed to the community.

As part of his sentencing, Tomlinson was handed a total of 15 years of detention in a Young Offenders Institution. Additionally, he was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This order explicitly prohibits him from having any unsupervised contact or communication with female children under the age of 16. It also restricts his use of computers, aiming to prevent any further offenses and protect potential future victims.

Tomlinson faced multiple charges, including two counts of rape, one count of sexual activity with a child, and one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Throughout the legal process, he maintained his innocence, denying all allegations. However, the court found him guilty on all counts, and he was subsequently sentenced to 15 years in a young offenders’ facility, marking a significant and serious response to his criminal conduct in Macclesfield.
