AARON ROBERTS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN PUALTON AND BRISTOL CROWN COURT
Aaron Roberts, a resident of Paulton, has been convicted of two serious sexual offences committed against a young girl several years ago. The verdict was delivered by a jury, which found Roberts guilty of one count of rape and another of sexual assault. In addition to these convictions, Roberts also pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, related to a separate incident involving a different victim. The sentencing took place at Bristol Crown Court on Monday, 21 October. During the proceedings, the presiding judge, Euan Ambrose, emphasized the gravity of Roberts' crimes and the ongoing threat he poses to the public. Recognizing the severity of the case, Judge Ambrose ordered an extended prison sentence, reflecting the need to protect society from further harm. Roberts was sentenced to 13 years in prison, with an additional 10-year extended licence period following his release. Furthermore, Roberts will be registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register for the remainder of his life.
The victim, whose identity remains protected, provided a heartfelt statement to the court, describing the profound and lasting impact of Roberts' actions. She expressed feelings of emotional devastation, stating, "Emotionally, the crime you committed has torn me into pieces. Never in my life have I ever felt so isolated and alone." She recounted how her social circle vanished as her friends, described as innocent and naive children, could not comprehend the trauma she endured. The young woman described feeling like an outsider, with a metaphorical sign on her head, as if everyone was scrutinizing her and talking about her behind her back.
She further explained, "You have ripped my world apart, and every aspect of my life has been touched by this. I don’t know how I will ever recover or regain a sense of normalcy." The victim also acknowledged the tremendous support she has received from her family over the years, which has been a vital source of strength during her recovery.
Judge Ambrose expressed his deep concern over the case, stating, "It is impossible not to be moved by the suffering you have caused to the victim and her family." He highlighted the significant risk Roberts continues to pose to the community, justifying the extended sentence to ensure public safety. The court's decision underscores the seriousness of Roberts' offences and the lasting impact on those affected.
