TYNESIDE THUG SPARED PRISON FOR VIOLENT ASSAULT ON PARTNER
A man named Aaron Mitcheson, aged 40, has been found guilty of attacking his partner in their home while their three children were upstairs.
The court heard that in November last year, Mitcheson, who has a history of 16 convictions for 22 offences, strangled his partner and damaged her phone by snapping it in two.
The incident began around 10:30 pm during a drinking dispute, escalating into physical violence.
Prosecutor Matthew Hopkins described how Mitcheson pushed her chin down to her neck, restricting her ability to breathe, and while she asked why he was acting this way, he straddled her.
The victim called out to her children and asked them to contact the police.
The altercation lasted about 20 minutes, and after the event, she expressed feeling like she let her family down and was hurt by what occurred.
Mitcheson was sentenced to 21 months in prison, suspended for 24 months, and ordered to undertake 20 days of rehabilitation, 150 hours of unpaid work, and 26 Building Choices sessions.
During the sentencing, the judge highlighted their long history of a relationship that was once good but became abusive, noting the victim's bruising and emotional distress.
