AARON MARSEN BOOTH SENTENCED IN GLOSSOP FOR BRUTAL ATTACK AND THREATS IN DERBYSHIRE
In a case that has garnered considerable public and media attention, Aaron Marsden Booth was handed a severe prison sentence of 14 years following a violent and terrifying assault on his former partner in Derbyshire. The incident unfolded in the victim’s home located in Glossop, where Booth’s aggressive behavior culminated in a brutal attack involving physical violence, stabbing, and threatening her with a knife to her throat. The events began when Booth forcefully smashed the victim’s front door during a 999 emergency call, which was heard by emergency responders. The victim, now aged 31, managed to escape the assault, but not before sustaining multiple stab wounds to her legs and side. The violence did not end there; Booth, in a display of extreme hostility, held a knife to her throat in front of police officers who had arrived at the scene. He issued a chilling threat to kill her if the officers attempted to approach closer.
Following a tense standoff that lasted approximately three hours, Booth eventually left the scene. However, he was later apprehended by law enforcement officers. During the court proceedings, Judge Richard Mansell QC acknowledged the victim’s remarkable bravery, stating, “You have been brave in the extreme. You have not just protected yourself; you have protected other women.” The court was also informed that Booth had a troubling history of controlling and abusive behavior, which notably worsened after he began abusing alcohol and drugs in May 2018.
The victim recounted her ongoing efforts to leave the abusive relationship over several years. She described how Booth would manipulate her emotionally, employing blackmail tactics to prevent her from ending the relationship. CCTV footage was presented in court, showing Booth following his victim from pub to pub, further illustrating his obsessive and threatening behavior. The situation escalated to the point where she had to call police after Booth attempted to kick down her front door.
Booth pleaded guilty to the charge of wounding with intent, which led to his 14-year prison sentence. Additionally, he was issued an indefinite restraining order that prohibits any contact with the victim. Law enforcement officers expressed their admiration for her resilience and courage. DC Graham Millar commented, “His behaviour ground down a strong, independent, young woman – causing her to lose more than two stone in weight as Booth’s campaign of abuse continued.”
