ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT AND ABUSE AGAINST EX
Aaron Jack, aged 40, was convicted of a serious case of violence and abuse towards his ex-partner after a tumultuous relationship and a series of aggressive incidents.The court heard that Jack attacked his former girlfriend in her home in Aberdeen city centre, armed with a wooden baseball bat-type weapon.
He began by violently kicking at her door at around 3:10 pm after she refused entry, leading her to open the door in an attempt to diffuse the situation.
Immediately, he struck her in the head with the wooden weapon, causing her to fall to the floor.
Following this, Jack searched her house, trashed her furniture, and attempted to choke her by grabbing her throat.
The woman feared for her life, believing Jack was going to kill her.
He then fled the scene as neighbors called an ambulance for her head wound.
Later that evening, Jack returned and threw an empty gin bottle at her wall.
He was arrested, cautioned, and charged the following day.
Despite their breakup, the couple resumed contact and moved back in together in January 2020, breaching bail conditions.
Their relationship remained toxic, and Jack's abusive behavior continued when she was out on a night out in February 2020.
On that occasion, he sent threatening messages, instructed her to collect her belongings, and gave her just half an hour to leave.
The court heard that Jack's actions were driven by jealousy, as he believed she was seeing another man after she sent him a photo of another man's legs in her bed.
The defense argued Jack was overwhelmed by the situation and expressed remorse.
Nevertheless, Jack admitted charges of carrying an offensive weapon, abusive behavior towards his ex, and breaching bail conditions.
The sheriff described his actions as very serious and appropriate punishment was deemed necessary.
Jack was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to stay away from his ex-wife for five years via a non-harassment order.
