GOLSPIE OFFENDER DODGES JAIL DESPITE CHILD INDECENCY IMAGES
A criminal identified as Aaron Gunn, aged 21, has been found guilty of possessing indecent images of children and communicating sexually with minors, yet he has avoided imprisonment.Gunn was in possession of 42 inappropriate images of children spread over three devices when police raided his residence in Golspie.
Among these images, which depicted children in erotic poses without sexual activity, nine were sent to him by a 12-year-old girl in naked pictures.
The court heard that Gunn had possessed these images between December 22, 2019, and May 12, 2020, and had also requested a 15-year-old girl to send him a topless selfie, constituting a sexual communication.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that police raided Gunn’s home while he was still a minor, after discovering a report that a 12-year-old girl was sending him nude images.
The court considered the number of images, describing them as a "relatively small number" in the least serious category.
Sheriff Sara Matheson announced that Gunn would not serve jail time but would be under three years of social work supervision, participate in a sex offender rehabilitation program, and stay on the Sex Offender’s Register for three years.
Sheriff Matheson stated, “Because of the relatively small number of images and that they are in the least serious category, I can deal with this with a sentence other than one of custody.”
