CROYDON MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER BRUTAL MURDER OF PENSIONER
Aaron Fyle, aged 29 and from Croydon, was found guilty of the savage killing of retired midwife Eulin Hastings in South Norwood, London.
The attack occurred after he broke into her residence in January 2017, during which he struck her multiple times with a coffee table before burning her body near the staircase.
Known as a habitual burglar, Fyle had a lengthy record of property crimes and was identified as a prolific offender.
He was apprehended following the incident and was involved in a stand-off where he threatened to harm himself.
Despite asserting a plea of manslaughter on grounds of self-defense and mental health issues, his defenses were dismissed, leading to a conviction for murder.
The court handed down a life sentence with a minimum term of 31 years before parole could be considered.
The judge highlighted Fyle’s extensive criminal background and stated that burglary had been his primary lifestyle for many years.
Sonia Rhone, the victim’s daughter, shared her sorrow, saying: “Her life was tragically cut short in her retirement years by someone who had never earned an honest living.”
