BIRMINGHAM HOTEL GUEST SEXUALLY ASSAULTED AND ROBBED BY DANGEROUS SEX OFFENDER AARON DUFFY
A Birmingham hotel guest was sexually assaulted by a drug-addicted offender after he forcibly entered her room. The victim bravely resisted Aaron Duffy, 39, who committed the terrifying attack after she opened her door to him in Brindleyplace.
Duffy initially claimed he was room service but then engaged in aggressive behavior.
He pushed her back into her room with force, causing her to land on the bed, while she screamed and struggled, biting him to stop him from covering her mouth.
During the assault, he demanded money and stole her purse and phone, which she hit him over the head with using her iPad.
The victim, who has a heart condition, was later seen distressed and police quickly arrested Duffy from CCTV footage two days later.
Duffy had an extensive criminal record with 54 convictions for 90 offences, including two for exposure, one of which involved being completely naked, despite being on a sexual harm prevention order.
He was previously jailed for five years after admitting charges of sexual assault and robbery.
During sentencing, judge Simon Drew QC highlighted Duffy’s violent and sexual criminal history and the significant impact of his actions on the victim, noting her courage in giving her victim impact statement in court.
Duffy was deemed dangerous, posing a very high risk of harm, and the court extended his license period by five years.
His defense argued he suffered from serious mental health issues and had recently deteriorated, leading to this behavior.
Duffy, of Earlsbury Gardens, was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison.
