MAN JAILED AFTER THIRTY STARVING CATTLE MOVED FROM FARM AFTER NINETY COWS HAD TO BE DESTROYED
Animals suffering from neglect at an Alvechurch farm have been moved by the RSPCA following a public outcry.According to a statement given to the Advertiser, the cows that were at the center of the controversy at Emmadale Farm on Rowney Green Lane have been relocated to an undisclosed site.
The RSPCA spokesperson stated, "On veterinary advice, the cattle have been transferred to a location where they can receive proper care and their welfare needs can be thoroughly addressed." She also noted, "The ongoing welfare of these animals is being monitored daily, and an investigation into the circumstances continues." The issues at the farm came to light last month when it was revealed that 90 cows had to be humanely destroyed, while 30 others were left to starve to death.
The situation unfolded after the farm owners, Lionel, David, and Stephen Tongue, were convicted and sentenced for unpaid fines linked to breaches of the Protection of Animals Act.
A dispute over control of the cattle led to police intervention, resulting in the animals being seized and placed under the care of the RSPCA.
John Puckering, the chairperson of Alvechurch Parish Council, voiced his approval, commenting, "It’s good to see action being taken, and the RSPCA stepping in to feed and care for the animals now."
